I agree with Remy the rat a full 100%--That French dish does sound like the most complex, yukk-iest meal ever created to grace the menu (As said in the movie:
It sounds like "rat" and "patouille" mashed together); and yet looks, smells and tastes completely the opposite(which means EXTREMELY appetising.)
Being a dish with such a curious name, I couldn't help but Google it up on the web. Apparently, it originates from
Provence (ooh) and is can be served as a main or a side entree.
It is also a
vegetable dish.
As I suspected!! HAha, the movie animation was pretty accurate, considering it didn't look anything like meat (
or rat meat!). My brother was rather put out when he heard it was mostly vegetables. Oh well.
Recipes and ingredients vary from cook to cook, but the common veggies used are
eggplant (aubergine), garlic, onions and zucchini [sounds very posh, but mostly just Italian], as well as a special Herbes de Provence seasoning. (No clue as to how it tastes at the moment.)But of course, the Ratatouille dish only makes for the final few minutes of the movie. The rest of it, is of Remy the rat, and his super-awesome nose,
Paris, The
Gusteau Restaurant, romance, lots of ginger-hair-puppet-pulling and
FOOD.
That makes for a fantastic night movie indeed! :D
